Virgin Media have announced that they will increase speeds for all customers on their M100 and M200 by an average of 24%. The new packages are called M125 and M250, in reference to the new approximate average download speed in mb/s. The speed increase is available to both new and existing customers at no extra cost.

What are the new speeds for Virgin Media broadband?
Customers currently subscribed to Virgin Media’s M125 package will see an average speed increase of 22%, from 108 mb/s to 132 mb/s. Those going from the M200 to the M250 will see average speeds increase from 213 mb/s to 264 mb/s.
The upload speed of both packages has been improved as well. Customers with an old M100 package will see upload speeds double to 20 mb/s. The new M250 will feature an upload speed of 25 mb/s, 25% higher than before.
If you’re a Volt customer with one of these packages – i.e. if you have a SIM as part of your Virgin Media O2 bundle – you’ll benefit from the uplift on top of your existing speed boost.
How can I access the higher speeds?
If you’re already an M100 or M200 customer then all you need to do is restart your router. Either switch the power to your router off and on again or automatically restart the router through the Virgin Media app. Check the full announcement for the speed boost here

Will Virgin Media increase speeds for their other packages?
It’s currently only been confirmed that Virgin Media will increase speeds with small business customers with a Voom 600, 800 or 1 Gig service at some point in the new year. However, when talking about the scheme, Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media O2, said:
“Virgin Media O2 set out with a clear aim to upgrade the UK, and giving millions of our customer’s enhanced value through our latest broadband speed boost is another step towards this.
“As reliance on connectivity continues to grow – and at a time when value matters more than ever – we’re proud to be giving our customers even more, on us.”
Hopefully, this means we’ll see similar speed increases for other customers in future. In the meantime, the extra mb/s should be welcome in increasingly busy, connected households.
