Black Friday broadband deals are an easy way to use the year’s biggest discounts to save all year long.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, or if you’ve used Please Connect Me’s free expert utility service, you know that we recommend renewing or switching broadband providers at the end of your contract to get the best deal.
However, if your current contract ends in October or November, you might be able to save even more by locking in a discounted Black Friday deal for the next year – or even longer!
The idea of a huge sale at the end of November comes from the US, but many UK broadband providers save their best deals of the year for that date as they try and compete for the attention of bargain hunters.
Read on to learn more about Black Friday offers, including who we’re expecting to have the best deals.
What is Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Black Friday is a tradition from the US that has been growing in popularity worldwide throughout the 21st century.
In the US, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, which is a public holiday. The next day, retailers offer huge discounts and sales on their products in order to tempt customers with some pre-Christmas, and post-Thanksgiving shopping.
Black Friday’s reputation as the best day to secure deals has grown, and today most businesses offer discounts across a long weekend stretching from Black Friday (the fourth Friday in November) to the following Monday, known as Cyber Monday.
Cyber Monday is a popular day for online retailers to offer discounts, but many online stores will have sales all weekend.
When is Black Friday in 2023?
This year Thanksgiving is on November 23rd, and so Black Friday is on November 24th. Cyber Monday is on the following Monday, November 27th.
Offers may also begin appearing before Black Friday itself. For example, last year Sky began offering their Black Friday discounts on broadband a full week early.
It’s common for Black Friday offers to be available throughout the long weekend, or even for a whole week, but be careful! You might also get caught out by a deal ending before you expect it.
If you’re comparison shopping, make sure to note when deals are ending so you don’t miss out.
Black Friday Broadband deals
When it comes to things to order on Black Friday, broadband might not be top of your list. However, while shopping for gifts and new electronics might be more fun, setting up the right broadband contract at the right price can save you money all year.
The trick is to look for a Black Friday Broadband deal that stays at the same low price for the duration of the contract. While some contracts have a price jump partway through, you can find some that will stay low. Aside from a potential small increase based on inflation, you’ll be paying the same cheaper price until the end of your contract.
Which suppliers have Black Friday deals?
As of right now, no broadband suppliers have announced what their Black Friday broadband deals will be. However, some have confirmed that they will have discounts. For others, we can make an educated guess based on their sales in 2022 and the years before.
Virgin Media Black Friday broadband deals
Virgin Media is one of the companies that have confirmed it will be offering Black Friday broadband deals. There’s currently a page live on the Virgin Media website promising that deals will be here soon.
Last year, Virgin’s deals included a 52% discount on 362 mb/s broadband, saving customers who jumped on the offer £522 over the course of their contract.
You could also save £30 a month on a bundle of 362 mb/s broadband and Virgin TV, a total saving of £540 over the 18-month contract.
Sky’s Black Friday deals
The UK’s biggest broadband and TV provider, Sky hasn’t yet confirmed that they will be running Black Friday offers on their website. However, they have run promotions every Black Friday in recent years, and there are already predictions about what the offers will be.
Last year saw Sky offer a £10 a month discount on the Ultrafast and Ultrafast Plus broadband, saving customers £180 over the length of their contract. There were also discounts available on phones and iPads through the Sky mobile store and a monthly saving on Sky Glass smart TVs.
Hyperoptic Black Friday Broadband deals
Hyperoptic is already one of the most competitively priced broadband suppliers on the market, and on Black Friday you might have the chance to get an even better deal.
While Hyperoptic hasn’t confirmed a Black Friday broadband sale yet, last year it cut the price of all of its broadband packages. The best deal was on a 500 mb/s internet plan for just £25 a month, saving customers £120 over the length of the contract.
Top tips for finding great broadband deals on Black Friday
- Shop around – you’ll likely have several different suppliers available at your address, so check them all out for the best deal. Please Connect Me makes it easy to find all the best options at your address, learn more here.
- Time it right – Order too early and you might miss a great deal from another supplier, but once Black Friday itself is here start committing before the offers disappear.
- Mar your calendar for renewal – When you place an order, make a note of when your new contract expires. If it’s a 12 or 24-month plan it’ll be just in time for Black Friday next year!
- Calculate the monthly cost – Some offers might have a discounted price for part of the contract, and a higher price later. Add up the total cost and divide by the contract length to find the real monthly price for easier comparison.
