What’s a good broadband price in 2024? How much does broadband cost on average? The cost of your broadband package depends on your speed, your provider and any extras you want to include. However, it’s helpful to have an idea of the average broadband price while shopping to make comparing plans easier.
Depending on your connection, here’s what you can expect to pay for internet on average each month based on the UK’s biggest suppliers and best independent networks.
All prices given are correct at the time of publication and do not include potential mid-contract price rises.
Â
What is the average broadband price in the UK?
Depending on speed, you can expect to pay £25-£60 a month for broadband in a fixed-term contract of 24 months. Most people pay between £25 and £32 a month for FTTC broadband and top-speed FTTP broadband packages cost between £40 and £60 a month.
What’s the average price for ADSL broadband?
ADSL broadband is delivered via the copper cabling used for landline phone calls. While this was some of the first home internet to be rolled out, it offers very limited maximum speeds.
If broadband price is your main concern, these packages may be appealing. However, the maximum speed you can reach on this network is lower than we recommend for day-to-day use like streaming video or working from home.
Very few providers still offer ADSL broadband packages. One that does is Talk Talk, which has an 11 Mbps ADSL broadband package for £29.95 a month in a 24-month contract.
If fibre is available at your property, there are cheaper packages available at higher speeds you can take advantage of. If your home does not have fibre, a mobile broadband package will be able to offer a more usable speed at a similar monthly cost.
Many rural areas that previously had no fibre options have recently seen the arrival of independent networks. Want to find out more about the options at your home? Book a free call with one of our Connections Experts.

What’s the average price for fibre broadband in the UK?
Fibre to the cabinet or FTTC broadband is the most common kind of connection in the UK, though more and more homes are making the upgrade to full fibre. Read more about the differences between fibre broadband options here.
Typically, FTTC connections have a maximum speed of 70 Mbps. Providers have traditionally offered packages restricted to a speed of around 35 Mbps, but these are being phased out as home internet demands grow.
For higher speeds, you’ll need to make the switch to ‘full-fibre’ broadband, which you can read more about below.
The typical price for an FTTC package of 60 Mbps and up is £25-£31, with BT offering unusually expensive plans at £46.99 a month.

What’s the average broadband price for full fibre internet?
Full fibre internet or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connections use only fibre optic cabling, meaning users can reach much higher speeds. These packages typically offer speeds from 100 Mbps up to 900 Mbps.
As home internet use requires more and more bandwidth, providers are working to offer these packages to more and more customers.
An average broadband price for a 150 Mbps FTTP package is £25-30 a month in a 24-month contract.
A 300 Mbps connection will cost £28-40 a month in the same contract length, with a 500 Mbps costing around £35 a month.
If you want to maximise internet speeds at home, the typical monthly broadband price for a 900 Mbps package is £40-£47 a month, with BT again being unusually expensive.

What’s the average price for UK mobile broadband?
Rather than relying on traditional infrastructure, mobile broadband uses a 4G or 5G mobile signal to create a home WiFi network. This means that you’re not dependent on which suppliers have installed their cabling in your area, and can achieve higher speeds than relying on ADSL or even FTTC solutions.
The average price for a 4G mobile broadband plan is £30 a month under contract. For a 5G plan, the average price is £45-£50 a month.
